Illustrator Barry Blitt
Central Hall (Rm 230)
12:00pm to 2:30pm, Wednesday February 4, 2009
Hosted by the Illustration program at OCAD.
No other magazine cover this year generated as much controversy as Barry Blitt’s illustration of Barack and Michelle Obama in the July 21 issue of The New Yorker. Dubbed "The Politics of Fear," the magazine issued a press release stating "[It] satirizes the use of scare tactics and misinformation in the presidential election to derail Barack Obama’s campaign." But not everyone got the joke. This Wednesday, you are invited to hear Barry Blitt recount his experience creating this and countless other covers as one of America’s foremost political cartoonists and Illustrators. He is also a Canadian and an OCAD alumnus.
Barry Blitt’s illustrations appear regularly in The New York Times, Time, Newsweek, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Chicago Tribune, Entertainment Weekly and other publications. He lives in Riverside, Connecticut.
